Lesson 3.3: Gender

Before this lesson, I thought that gender referred to what people identified themselves as, such as “feminine”, “masculine”, “non-binary”, “transgender”, or even “agender.” Scholars study how gender plays a role in religion and how different gender roles are impacted by religion itself. What I realized from this lesson was that most of the learning material and literary works associated with religion are dominated by white males. Any mention of females in these works is usually derogatory or misogynistic. Now, many schools have developed their programs to more emphasize gender and sexuality studies. Another thing I also learned is that gender fluidity is not just a recent concept.
